Setup Guides Printable step-by-step PDFs: Chromebook and MacBook sign-in, Chrome sync, Schoology, PowerSchool.
One sign-in for your child’s school programs
Your child has one school account. It looks like [email protected] — first name, then the first letter of the last name and the year their class finishes 8th grade. Sign in to Chrome with that account and the programs on the SJS Bookmark Bar open without asking for a second password. That is Single Sign-On.
A few addresses are shortened differently, so it is worth checking rather than guessing. Your child’s exact address is shown next to their password when you request it.
Three settings need to be correct on the device your child uses at home. Work through the three steps below in order — each one takes a moment to check.
Check Chrome is signed in as your child
Check the round profile picture top-right in Chrome. It must be your child — not you, not a sibling. Click it to switch.
Turn Chrome sync on
If Chrome says "Turn on sync", click it and sign in with the SJS account. Sync is what brings the SJS Bookmark Bar down to the home device.
No sync, no bookmark bar — and programs then ask for a password that does not exist.
Open programs from the SJS Bookmark Bar
The row of shortcuts under the address bar. Open these only from there:
- Schoology
- IXL
- Discovery Education
- Learning Ally
- HMH Ed
Sync is the step that quietly fails, and nothing else works until it is right. If a program keeps asking for a password, this is almost always why.

Your own Chromebook at home
The child signs in with a personal or family account, then adds the SJS account inside it. SJS is now a second account in someone else’s profile — sync belongs to the first one, so the bookmark bar never arrives.
Instead: at the Chromebook sign-in screen, add SJS as its own profile.
Looks like a password problem. It is not. Chromebook sign-in guide →
Home computer — Windows or Mac
Use Google Chrome and give your child their own Chrome profile — not an account added to yours, which fails the same way. Then turn sync on.
On a Mac, school programs need Chrome rather than Safari. Chrome is a free download.
iPad, tablet or phone
No bookmark bar, sync behaves differently, and some programs will not let a child submit work.
Your only option? Raise a ticket and we will set it up with you.
School Chromebooks are already set up — nothing to do on those. Every guide, including MacBook sign-in, is on the Setup Guides page.
Exceptions: Raz Kids and XtraMath have their own logins (request below). PowerSchool and Parent Schoology Access are your accounts, not your child's.
